A.S. "Gus" Weekley, Jr., M.D., is a Board Certified general surgeon who, after a 20+ year career as a general surgeon in Tampa, obtained his law degree, cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law. Dr. Weekley now practices healthcare law, representing physicians and other providers as defense or personal counsel in malpractice cases, Medicare refund audits, license acquisitions, licensing discipline issues, hospital staff privilege matters, and Department of Health actions. He is a certified healthcare risk manager, a Florida Supreme Court certified circuit court mediator, and the past Chair of the Health Law Section of The Florida Bar. Prior to entering the practice of law, Dr. Weekley maintained a surgical practice in Tampa, where he chaired the Department of Surgery at University Community Hospital and at Tampa Bay Community Hospital, where he was later elected Chief of Staff. Dr. Weekley is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the United States Supreme Court. His memberships include the Florida Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the American Bar Association, Fellowship in the American College of Legal Medicine, Hillsborough County and Florida Medical Associations, American Medical Association, National Health Lawyers Association, and the American Society of Law and Medicine. Dr. Weekley has authored numerous publications in the healthcare field. Dr. Weekley has been named a Florida Super Lawyer by Florida Super Lawyers magazine and is AV® Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
